Some Basics About Web Design

Web design encompasses a variety of disciplines and skills in the creation and management of websites. The various disciplines of web design relate to web browsing, web content writing, web page layout, web server programming, web page content writing, website advertising, and website promotion. These fields of web design are interrelated but have different components. The different components of web design are client-side programming, server-side programming, web application programming, web hosting, and web marketing. Each component of web design has a significant impact on the creation and performance of a website.

User research is a major part of the process of designing a website. In a design, users explore and evaluate websites. User research helps the web designer to understand what users need, what they like, what they dislike, and what they expect to see. In the past, users often conducted all or most of this research themselves, but today they outsource this task to web designers.

Many companies today outsource user research and do it themselves. Outsourcing allows the company to control costs, to have a more thorough understanding of the needs and desires of their customers, and to concentrate on developing the best quality products. It is important that the web designer understands the needs and tastes of their target audience. The better the understanding, the more accurately they can anticipate how to construct the website. Another advantage of outsourcing user research is that the designers know that they will receive honest and complete feedback.

Web designers are primarily responsible for creating the layout of the website. This is where all the visual content is located. The primary responsibility of the web designer is to create a functional layout that provides the structure of the web pages, and coordinates the appearance of the visual elements with the layout. Some web designers prefer to create the layout in the house, and work with a team of content writers and programmers to create the final product. While it is always best to have an in house staff to perform this task, it is sometimes the easiest way to create a site. When a web designer does not have to coordinate the layout, he has more time to focus on programming.

There are some web designers who do most of the work themselves, and create the layout and visual elements of the website themselves. There are others who outsource the creation of the pages to independent consultants. These individuals create the web pages in-house and oversee the entire project, from the creation of the content to the final delivery. Web designers who outsource the creation of their web pages usually do so because the independent consultants know how to best create the pages.

User Interface (UI) designers are responsible for the use of the software programs that allow the visitor to navigate the website. They are very involved in the process of designing the user interface. A user experience (UI) designer is often involved in the process of determining the information presented on the website, as well as the behavior associated with the content on the website. The goal of the user experience designer is to provide an online tool that is easy to use and designed in such a way that provides optimal usability. User experience designers can be found in the front office of many web design firms or employed by individual web designers.

One of the more technical aspects of web design is the creation of the HTML or CSS code that allows the designer to upload the website to the World Wide Web. The website, of course, is designed in a particular layout that will be displayed on the internet. The graphic design is responsible for the layout of the images and photos on the website. In a nutshell, the graphic designer is responsible for “drawing” the user interface or the online picture that will be displayed when the user clicks on a certain page.

The other aspect of the web designer is the creation of the actual content of the site. Even though typography may not be as exciting as graphics, it is equally important. Simply put, the typography is the typeface and the size of the letters that are used. For example, if you are creating a web page that is about chocolates, the font will be large and bold so that it is easily readable. It’s very important that the typography and the size of the font used for the visual design principles are in harmony with one another.
